Stock Market Participation in Germany on record high
Deutsches Aktieninstitut has published its updated shareholder figures for Germany. With 12.4 million people, a particularly large number were invested in shares in the Corona year 2020. The young generation in particular discovered the stock market for themselves last year.
"The number of equity savers in Germany skyrocketed by 2.7 million last year. That is sensational," says Dr. Christine Bortenlänger, Managing Director of Deutsches Aktieninstitut. "Every sixth person in Germany had shares, equity funds or equity ETFs in their securities account. The last time there were more equity savers was in 2001."
The shareholder figures have been collected by the Deutsches Aktieninstitut since 1997. The study determines, among other things, how many share savers there are in Germany, what their geographical distribution is and how share ownership is distributed across the different age groups.
