Corporate due diligence in supply chains: Balanced and proportionate EU law is needed

In our position paper on the draft Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) we reject the proposed civil liability if companies failed to comply with the due diligence obligations. It is impossible for companies to mitigate every single risk that may occur in the supply chains. The legislator must therefore focus on the most severe adverse impacts. We oppose the duty to adopt a plan to ensure that the business model and company strategy are compatible with the transition to a sustainable economy and with limiting global warming to 1.5° C.
