New technical screening criteria for the EU taxonomy: Postponement needed

On the occasion of the EU Commission's consultation on the technical screening criteria for environmental goals three to six of the EU Taxonomy, we call for a postponement of the enter into force of the Delegated Acts for new activities and environmental goals from 2024 to 2026. The postponement is necessary since experience with the Delegated Acts on climate has shown that excessively short implementation periods are detrimental to the quality of disclosed information. Furthermore, the looming burden for companies resulting from the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive does not allow for a simultaneous implementation of both regulations.

Some of the Delegated Acts on the four environmental objectives include very strict technical screening criteria and criteria for the do-no-significant-harm approach. In addition, there are inconsistencies within the technical screening criteria. These issues must be considered in the further political process.
