Press releases
"Time in the market beats timing the market" – in other words, investment duration beats entry time, according to a stock market rule. This is once again impressively demonstrated by the average returns of the updated return triangles published today by Deutsches Aktieninstitut. Those who invest in equities on a long-term and broadly diversified basis can easily ride out stock market downturns and generate long-term returns of six to nine percent.
"The stock market year 2023 was a good one for equity investments. The German share index DAX rose by a good 20 percent, more than compensating for the loss-making year 2022," says Dr. Christine Bortenlänger, Chief Executive of Deutsches Aktieninstitut. "This shows once again that perseverance pays off when investing in equities. The recipe is to invest broadly diversified and long-term in equities in order to build up solid assets over the years with the help of the high returns of equities."
Building wealth with shares is attractive
Anyone who has invested some money in the DAX every month over the last twenty years can look forward to an average annual return of 8.5 percent. With a regular investment of 50 euros per month, a total of 12,000 euros has become around 30,000 euros after 20 years. In this case, the equity investment generated a return of 18,000 euros. With such a sum, you can fulfill a wish or two. If you want to diversify even more broadly, you can also invest in the EURO STOXX or the MSCI World, for which there are also return triangles from Deutsches Aktieninstitut.
Yield triangles for various indices
Deutsches Aktieninstitut traditionally updates its return triangles at the beginning of the year. These illustrate the historical returns on the stock market. The return triangles are available in different versions. The return triangles for the DAX are calculated both for one-off investments and for monthly investments such as a savings plan. For the MSCI World, the return triangle is only available for the savings plan, for the EURO STOXX only for the one-off investment.
Note for banks and insurers: It is possible to use the return triangles as an information offer in investment advice. A license must be obtained for this purpose. For further information, please contact Claudia Brehm (brehm(at)dai.de).
