Shareholder numbers 2025
The number of shareholders in Germany reached a record high in 2025: 14.1 million people, 2 million more than in the previous year, were active on the stock market last year. The number of investments in equity funds and ETFs has grown particularly strongly, but direct ownership of shares has also increased. In the long term, investors under the age of 40 are supporting the trend. In the short term, in addition to the growth among younger people, the positive development among investors and people from the new federal states (including Berlin) was particularly encouraging. Savings plans, which are now used by 5.3 million people, demonstrate interest in shares across all age and income groups and show that regular and broadly diversified investments are very widespread.
