Shareholder figures 2025: equity investment on the rise
In 2025, 14.1 million people in Germany owned shares, equity funds or ETFs. That is 2 million more than in 2024. Overall, one in five people aged 14 and above invested directly or indirectly in the stock market. The positive trend of the past 10 years has thus strengthened.
The youngest group saw the most significant increase: 4.9 million people under the age of 40 owned equity funds, ETFs or shares, 1.2 million more than in the previous year. There was also strong growth among women and people from eastern Germany. The social tailwind for shares is therefore stronger than ever. This tailwind should be used to make better use of the diversified long-term equity investment in the pension system.
