Shareholder numbers 2024: Time for political impulses!

In 2024, 12.1 million people in Germany owned shares, equity funds or ETFs, i.e. one in six of the population aged 14 and above. Despite a slight decline of 180,000, the number of shareholders remained above the 12 million mark for the fifth year in a row and thus well above the level of the past decade.

People on lower incomes, women and the population in eastern Germany continue to hold fewer funds, ETFs and shares in their portfolios. In order to improve economic participation, we have long advocated strengthening the role of equity investments in capital formation and retirement planning.
