Shareholder numbers 2021: Continuing at a high level

In 2021, almost 12.1 million people in Germany were invested in shares, equity funds or equity-based ETFs. That is around one in six of our fellow citizens over the age of 14 and the third-highest level since our study began in 1997.

Despite a slight decrease of 280,000 investors, this is roughly the same level as the previous year. Following the sharp rise in 2020, shareholder numbers have thus stabilized at a high level. Confidence in shares remains unbroken - 2021 was a good year for the equity culture in Germany.  
In the special of our shareholder figures, which appear in a new layout this year, we turn our attention this time to the question of what makes women and men tick when it comes to investing in equities.
