Greenwashing: Consultation of the European Supervisory Authorities is premature

In our contribution on the Call for Evidence of ESMA, EIOPA and EBA, we criticize that no clear picture of potential greenwashing practices can be drawn without corresponding legal requirements. The regulatory framework of sustainable finance is still under construction and has not yet been able to have any effect with regard to greenwashing. The Call for Evidence is therefore much too broad.

We call for a clear distinction between greenwashing and non-compliance with reporting requirements. Not every non-compliance with the new reporting obligations can be put on an equal footing with greenwashing.
